There are two kinds of people in this world: those with nicknames and those without. I'm one of the many nicknameless. I've had a string of wannabe nicknames: Mel, Mabs, 98, Meliss'. But nothing that anyone or everyone calls me with any consistency. If I were a lesbian, I'd go by Missy because that'd be badass; but I'm not, so that's out too. Anyway … I've been thinking about it because after I spent months searching for the perfect names for my children, I don't even call them by those names. Their names are Scarlett and Leo; I call them Babe and Buddy. I don't even know why I do this, but I'm kinda afraid that Leo doesn't know his name is Leo. Oops.
I'm also wondering if these nicknames are going to stick, and if so, will they hate them? Will Scarlett think that we had some affinity for Sonny and Cher? Well, that's true. I do love Cher. I mean, come on, look at her.
But I'm curious … Did your parents emotionally scar you with a nickname? Or do you secretly love being called Munchkin? Come on, you can tell me.
P.S. And then come over and hang out with us on Facebook! It'll be just like senior year except for funner.
